World Oregon Speaker Series
In honor of the BLM protests around the country, Polara has stayed silent on social media. As we reach out again, it is to feature people of color from around the world and Polara’s commitment to help various non-profits in Portland.
Michael Shay, our founder, has been working on a personal pro bono project, photographing the speakers from the International Speaker Series sponsored by World Oregon.
This is Shaun King, an American writer, civil rights activist, and co-founder of Real Justice PAC. King uses social media to promote social justice causes, including the Black Lives Matter movement.
Jaha Dukureh, a Gambian women’s right activist and anti-female genital mutilation campaigner. She is the founder and executive director of Safe Hands for Girls, an organization working against FGM and was the lead campaigner in The Guardian‘s End FGM Guardian Global Media Campaign.
Leymah Gbowee, 2011 Noble Peace Prize winner and a Liberian peace activist responsible for leading a women’s nonviolent peace movement, Women of Liberia Mass Action for Peace that helped bring an end to the Second Liberian Civil War in 2003.
